In 2022, Portugal’s only overseas territories are the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores. Which town on the border with Spain played a key role in the defense of Portugal and for many centuries repelled Spanish invasions?

Why do the autonomous parts of Portugal — the Azores and the island of Madeira — have their own symbols? The flag of Portugal combines the green color, also considered a symbol of hope and recalling the times of Henry the Navigator, with the red color of the revolution. The modern flag of the Azores resembles the flag of Portugal (1830–1911). The only difference is that the Portuguese coat of arms was moved from the center of the flag to its upper left corner, and a hawk — the symbol of the archipelago — was placed in the center. What colors can be seen on the flag of Madeira?
1. black and white 2. white and red 3. white and blue 4. orange and green 5. blue and yellow
